Study in Ontario

Ontario meets international students because of the different perspectives they bring our institutions of higher learning.  Coming to Ontario as an international student is a two-step-process.

  1. You must apply to and be accepted by an Ontario college or university.
  2. Once accepted, submit your application for a  temporary study permit to the Government of Canada.

General Information about Studying in Ontario

Students who wish to study in Ontario must apply for a permit to the Government of Canada, through the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Permit applications must be filled out and sent to Citizenship and Immigration Canada after students receive their letter of acceptance from an Ontario-based university or college of applied arts and technology.

Ontario has a strong, expanded economy, with many kinds of work and many different industries. Most immigrants come to Ontario because of the opportunities offered here.The highest growing areas are business services, finance, including information technology, tourism and customs. In the north, the economy is mainly based on natural resources such as forests and minerals, while the south is Canada’s manufacturing heartland.

If you are a permanent resident, you are allowed to work in Canada and do not have to apply for a work permit. But if you are just staying temporarily, you will need a temporary work permit.
