ABOUT BPP

"There's great first hand knowledge, as the tutors are very experienced practitioners."

Founded in 1976 by Alan Brierley, Richard Price and Charles Prior, BPP has established an international reputation as one of the leading providers of professional education in Europe.

In 2007, in recognition of this status and our dedication to educational excellence, BPP made history by becoming the first ever private company to be granted degree-awarding powers by the Privy Council. This authentication of our reputation as a leading professional education provider enables us to award undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in our own name.

Today, BPP has two schools: Business and Law. These schools offer each student a rich educational experience focused on their future career in the modern world. Validated by the Law Society, the Bar Council, SRA Solicitors Regulation Authority and BSB, we are the sole provider of student training for 19 top law firms. Our Business School has formed relationships with many large employers, including the BBC, Tesco and Santander, and has provided tailored programmes for organisations such as Simmons and Simmons.

Benefits

BPP's qualified tutors have a combination of academic and practical experience in the fields they teach. We place great emphasis on academic rigour and theory, but at the same time we focus on what is of practical benefit in the world today, using real life scenarios in the classrooms to prepare you for the realities of your chosen profession. Our programmes are taught with a minimum of 15 hours per week (on average) face-to-face contact in tutorials, seminars or workshops.

Our programmes are also extremely flexible. You have the option of studying full-time, part-time or even via a combination of the two. Degree programmes can be taken in two or three years, allowing you to take semesters off if you need to return home for any reason. Many of the programmes that are delivered face-to-face at our London campuses can also be studied partially or fully online via distance learning.

As an international student, you can be sure of a warm welcome from our staff, many of whom have been international students themselves. Our International Students' Office ensures that everybody receives the support, assistance and advice they need. It starts before you even arrive here - with assistance with accommodation and visas - and includes airport pickup, orientation and ongoing pastoral care. We even arrange everything from social events to career assistance.

Over 30,000 students from 70 different countries study with us here in the heart of London or at our other UK campuses in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. Since 2009, BPP Business School has occupied purpose-designed premises at St. Mary Axe in the centre of the City, London's commercial district. BPP Law School is located in Holborn, close to the historic Inns of Court and the Law Society, as well as having facilities at Waterloo, just across the River Thames from the Royal Courts of Justice.

What Student think?

As a Senior Auditor with Clear & Lane Chartered Accountants in Leicestershire, Hannah Cox was keen to find a qualification that offered plenty of scope for future career progression.  Hannah achieved the second highest mark in the world at the June 2009 ACCA exams.

Hannah Cox won the ACCA 's first place worldwide for Paper P7 and joint silver medal at the June 2009 examination.  Hannah studied in the classroom with BPP attending a weekday taught course, weekday revision
and a question day for each paper. She is an senior auditor for Clear & Lane Chartered Accountants.

Why did you choose the qualification?

My role involves accounts preparation (limited companies, partnerships and sole traders), audit, VAT returns, Sage and other management accounts, and the supervision and training of less senior staff.

The ACCA qualification is the route taken by all graduates at my firm Clear & Lane. I chose to pursue a career in accountancy because I wanted a job with plenty of opportunity for future career progression. I was
keen to gain a further qualification and add to my skills.

The course structure...

I attended a weekday taught course, weekday revision and a question day for each paper.  I found it useful to study each subject over several whole days, then with a break to revise in your own time before the revision course. The two course exams are very helpful, in order to test your understanding, and the feedback received and quick turnaround are impressive.

I would definitely recommend a question day, as this is the perfect preparation for the actual exam. You can try out your exam technique for the 15 minutes reading time and your timings when planning your answers. The feedback from the tutors and the confidence you gain sets you up for the real thing.

The course tutors...

I found that all of my BPP Nottingham tutors were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their subject and how it is tested in the exam, in addition to being really helpful and offering lots of advice on exam technique. I appreciated the fact that they give out their email address and mobile phone number so that you can contact them with queries at any time. I am grateful to all of my professional stage tutors – Simon Hudson, Barry Hall, Nicola Colman, Jane Reeves and Ed McMillen.

Study materials...

I found the revision course notes very useful, in particular, as they give an overview of each chapter and reinforce the vital points. I also liked the skills bank in the front of the file, which gives practical advice for the exams. The course notes are well-referenced and are broken up by lecture examples, which enable you to apply what you have been taught.

The pass cards were handy for dipping into when there was a spare few minutes for studying and I made a point of going through them the day before an exam, to ensure that I was comfortable with all the topics that could be tested. I referred to the study texts when I wanted
further information on a particular subject, and I still occasionally find myself looking things up in them now.

About customer services...

I always found that everyone on the reception at Nottingham was very friendly and helpful - giving you a warm welcome.

Has training towards this qualification helped you in your current role?

I found that studying for the ACCA qualification gave me added confidence in the office, in addition to giving me the knowledge to take on higher level work as I progressed through the exams.  The two audit papers were especially helpful in my role as a trainee, as they gave me the theoretical background to add to my practical experience.

Would you recommend BPP to your colleagues/friends?

I would definitely recommend BPP to my colleagues and friends.  All of the trainees at my firm are also very impressed with BPP and the courses they have attended. I thoroughly enjoyed studying at BPP Nottingham.

What was the best thing about studying with BPP?

The free hot chocolate and the central location for shopping in Nottingham at lunchtimes. Seriously though, it would be the quality of the teaching received. This is aided by the small class sizes, which mean that each student receives lots of attention from the tutor and that it is less daunting to answer questions in class.
